A new monthly feature: A quick look at my blogging and writing activities in the previous month.

Cenotaph of George van Egmond, bishop of Utrecht

Apart from the usual blog posts and website/lens updates, I wrote one other article last month, for the Graveyard Rabbit Online Journal, the journal of The Association of Graveyard Rabbits. My Tour of the Tombs of the Domkerk Church of Utrecht, The Netherlands, was published on 25 May.

I wanted a better place for my photos, on my own blog or website, and started a new photo blog: Henk’s daily photo: A photo per day, Monday to Friday. I’ll continue to post photos here on this blog too, and there will be some overlap. If you like my photos I suggest you subscribe to the new blog, though.

On Squidoo I created two new lenses, both Zazzle sales lenses: iPhone 4 cases with a beach theme, presenting a selection of unique iPhone 4 cases with beach photos or drawings from different photographers, artists and designers, and Flower photography 2012 wall calendar, promoting a new calendar with beautiful flower photos by yours truly.

A new lens on Squidoo: A selection of unique iPhone 4 cases with a beach theme. If you want to cover your iPhone 4 with the beach, have a look and choose your case!

We have visited the Philippines three times in the last five years, and will go again later this year. Our base is always Tacloban City, on the island Leyte, in the Visayas.

Below I share five photos from Tacloban City. You can find more photos in the gallery shop, on flickr, on our website, or on Squidoo.

Top to bottom:

  1. A tricycle in front of the Capitol.
  2. View of the city, with in the background the Santo Niño Church.
  3. The Capitol, the seat of the government of the province Leyte.
  4. Daniel Z. Romualdez airport.
  5. View of the city and the San Juanico strait from Calvary Hill.

Boracay beach postcard
Boracay beach by Henk van Kampen

The island Boracay has one of the best, and probably the best known, beaches in the Philippines: Boracay White Beach. If you have been to Boracay, or plan to go there soon, have a look at our beautiful picture postcards from Boracay.

Squidoo has released a couple of new themes. I really like the New York theme! You can see it in action on my Poffertjes recipe lens. I’ll be moving most of my lenses from Easy Street (my previous favorite) to New York soon.

A new Squidoo lens: Flower cards. The lens promotes my flower cards at Zazzle, but as an experiment I also posted an invitation in the Zazzle forum to submit a flower card, and I added these submissions to the lens. As a result, the lens is better, it has more variety, it has comments, likes (13), visitors, and a decent lensrank, and I even sold one of the submitted designs!

The lens won’t maintain its lensrank, of course, but so far I consider the experiment a success! Maybe I should not do this all the time, but a monthly Zazzle lens with submitted content may be a good idea.
